Leak Detection Methods
Old homes in Indianapolis are very charming and ornate, but unfortunately, they have their fair share of plumbing issues, including leaks. Newer homes aren’t exempt from leaks either. Keeping your home leak-free is important for saving money on the water bill. In fact, when a plumber fixes a water leak, homeowners can save up to 10 percent on their bill. With savings like that, every homeowner should know how to perform a leak detection. Check out the following methods for detecting a water leak:- First step is to examine your water usage. Consider the number of people in your household, and if the amount of water seems too high, you should look for leaks in your plumbing system.
- Check your water meter, and hold off using the water for two hours. After you’ve waited, look at the meter to see if it reads the same. If it doesn’t, a leak may be causing the discrepancy.
- A useful method for discovering a toilet leak is to place a drop of food coloring in the tank. After 15 minutes, check the color of the toilet water. If the color appears in the bowl, you have a leak.
