DIY or Hire A Bathroom Remodeler?

If you are thinking about updating your bathroom you may be wondering whether or not you should call a professional bathroom remodeler. While there are many home improvement projects that homeowners can take on themselves, some are best left to the experts. If you are having trouble deciding whether the bathroom remodeling project is something within the realm of possibility, ask yourself these questions:

Do you have the time for the Bathroom remodeling project?

Some smaller scale projects like laying sod or stripping old wallpaper and repainting the walls can likely be completed in a weekend or two. Other large projects like complete bathroom remodeling will take much longer. Do you have time to replace the flooring, fixtures and plumbing? The time of a project is a major factor in whether you should hire a professional or not.

Do you have the skill set to perform the tasks required?

Certain projects require less expertise than others. For example, it is pretty easy to install a low-flow showerhead but replacing completely rerouting the bathroom plumbing will require the training and experience level of a professional plumber. Be sure to consider all the details of every task before deciding whether or not it’s within your ability.

Do you have the right tools?

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to put in tile and are thinking of installing a whole lot of it around the house, then the investment in specialized tools can be worth it. But, if all you want to do is the bathroom floor, the cost of the tools may actually outweigh the price of hiring a professional bathroom remodeler. If you really feel you have the skills for a project but don’t have the right tools, you can always consider renting them from a hardware store, borrowing them from a neighbor or checking your local swap group.
